A Letter from Bishop O’Connell & Novena to St. Joseph

A Letter from Bishop O’Connell

As the new year begins, there are many issues in society that challenge our Catholic moral and social teachings. Opposition to abortion remains our “pre-eminent priority.” During the month of January when we acknowledge the 48th anniversary of the fateful Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision, I invite the clergy and faithful of the Diocese of Trenton to join one another in a common prayerful response: (1) pray the rosary daily for the rest of the month for an end to abortion in our country; (2) pray the newly created “Novena to St. Joseph” to end abortion that will be published on our parish and diocesan websites each day, January 14 through 22; (3) pray and fast to end abortion on the actual anniversary date, January 22, as parishes celebrate Masses for the legal protection of the unborn. Since COVID precautions will restrict our usual participation in the annual March for Life in Washington on January 29, I will celebrate Mass online that day and many parishes will celebrate Masses in churches for all these intentions. As a Diocese, as parishes, let us pray for an end to abortion, for the legal protection of the unborn and in thanksgiving to God for the gift of human life.

Thank you. Bishop O’Connell

NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH TO END ABORTION

 January 14-22, 2021

St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church and Guardian of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus, the Son of God whom she carried in her Immaculate womb: intercede for us, we pray, that all recourse to abortion might cease in our nation and our world.  As your cared for Mother and Child, care for all women who bear the gift of life in their womb.  May no harm ever endanger them, and may no choice ever threaten the blessing of human life that God has created within. Guard them with your loving protection, at every moment, until His will has been fulfilled.  St. Joseph, spouse of Mary and foster father of the Lord, help us build a culture of life that yields a civilization of love among us.

Say the “Our Father,” the “Hail Mary” and the “Glory be” after the novena prayer.

Father Joseph Quinlan 07/05/1925 - 12/16/2020

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Father Joseph Quinlan into eternal life with Our Lord Jesus Christ. We have been greatly blessed by his dedication and service to our parish and he will be deeply missed.

“Father of all, we pray to you for Fr. Quinlan and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace.”

SVdP Giving Tree

Giving Tree 2020

It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

The Giving Tree, festively decorated, will be displayed at the back of the church from November 21, 2020 throughout the Christmas Season. Alongside the tree, a container may be found for your gift cards. Similar to last year, we are requesting gift cards, ONLY, so families can purchase items such as clothes, toys, and food, from stores like Target, Kohl’s, Old Navy, Foodtown, Shoprite, etc.

You can also drop off your gift cards at the Parish Office and place inside the mail slot to the left of the entrance door or mail it to OLPH Saint Agnes Parish Office at 103 Center Ave. Atlantic Highlands, NJ 07716, attention Saint Agnes SVdP.

Gift cards, specifically for Christmas, will NOT be accepted after December 6, 2020 so that families have time to do their Christmas gift shopping. If you are aware of a needy family who should be included in the list of recipients, please call the rectory at 732-291-0272, ext. 113. Leave your name and telephone number and one of our members will return your call as soon as possible.

Saint Vincent DePaul Society extends a special thank you to all parishioners of St. Agnes for making this beautiful act of giving possible.

God bless you and yours with a Very Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year!
